Job description
Confo Therapeutics is the only GPCR company with a discovery engine that precisely targets desired GPCR conformations. This unique capability allows us to unlock a vast untapped potential for the discovery and development of breakthrough medicines. We are advancing a robust pipeline of large and small molecules focused on validated targets in endocrine and metabolic diseases, as well as addressing a broader array of critical unmet medical needs in collaboration with our partners. Our team of approximately 60 people is dedicated to advancing our technology, expanding our capabilities, and building out our pipeline in order to achieve the best possible therapeutic outcomes for patients.
Confo Therapeutics is located on the Technology Park in Ghent. More information about Confo’s technology and strategy can be found on www.confotherapeutics.com.
We are seeking a highly motivated (Junior) Research Associate to join our Protein Science team. You will be involved in multiple exciting projects on the characterization and structural studies of GPCR complex with small molecules or biologics. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to work in industry towards cutting-edge GPCR drug discovery.
Your responsibilities:
You will be part of protein science team that focuses on (membrane) protein production, GPCR characterisation and structural biology
You apply a broad range of techniques to purify protein complexes for multiple programs to enable cryo-EM structure informed drug optimization: recombinant protein expression in insect and mammalian cells, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, affinity and size exclusion chromatography amongst others
You closely collaborate with cross-team stakeholders including molecular engineering, medicinal chemistry and de novo antibody discovery to generate native GPCRs facilitating ConfoBody discovery and DEL screen
You help to constantly improve the techniques applied in the gene to structure process activities
You will be involved in high-throughput screen of protein expression/purification development
Analyse and interpret your own research data and create reports using established software
You communicate and present experimental progress to the project team(s)
Job requirements
Degree of Bachelor or Master in Life sciences or equivalent
Bench oriented and preferentially trained in an industry environment (biotech or pharma)
Hands on experience with different chromatography techniques (e.g. AKTA), mammalian or insect cell culturing is an asset. Experience with membrane protein biochemistry is a plus
You are eager to learn different techniques and are capable of efficient and accurate experiment recording according to established protocols
You are a self-motivating and accountable team member with a problem-solving spirit
Excellent communication skills in English
Our offer:
A competitive compensation package with extensive benefits
An entrepreneurial international environment in a growing and ambitious biotech company
Excellent career development opportunity where you are stimulated in your personal development, with exposure to all aspects of R&D in the company
We will facilitate to become an expert membrane protein biochemist and structural biologist
